1. Introduction
1.1. About the Module
The on-line module M3 “Engineering Design” provides some methodological schemes to go through the “engineering design process” of a technical product, from writing specifications to the definition of a well-thought-out design where parts are fully defined. A generic problem-solving scheme is defined to be systematically applied at the different stages.
This module defines basic terminology for technical product development and has been written to help students to achieve the goals expected for the checkpoints and the final presentation.
Some aspects are focused as evaluation of the state-of-the art or proposals for creativity and innovation in the engineering design process.
Nothing is better than practice: theoretical elements given here are only guidelines to perform the industrial project in multidisciplinary teams and cannot substitute for this activity itself. The content of the module will be enriched by answers to questions that will be addressed by the students during their progress.
